We won Best Execution (at NGA2010)

Yay! We’re very happy to announce that last night we won the Best Execution Award at the Norwegian Game Awards 2010! The jury’s motivation for the award speaks for itself and is a huge compliment:

Jury motivation: Several teams have demonstrated a high degree of sophistication this year, but Evil Junior is without doubt in a league of its own. The submitted demo is fairly short and doesn’t provide all that much action, but what is in there was more than enough to secure the first prize in this category. Everything from the polished graphics and top-notch voice acting to the interesting characters & story promises a fun point-and-click adventure in the style of vintage LucasArts games. When the jurys only real complaints can be summed up as “the demo is too short” and “some of the credits are a bit hard to read”, that should in itself be a sign of very high quality.

Evil Junior wins NGA Hype Award at The Gathering 2010

Being a criminal mastermind pays off! We won the NGA Hype Award and the TG 2010 GameDev competition! This is very inspiring for the team and has given us a great confidence boost to follow up on the demo we are currently working on for the main NGA (Norwegian Game Awards) event taking place in August this year.

The Evil Junior-crew will be at The Gathering - AGAIN!

Posted by bent | News | Wednesday 24 March 2010 10:27

One year later and we will be at The Gathering in Hamar, Norway again. A few of our excellent graphic artists and programmers will host a number of seminars on game development, 3D modelling and animation. If you’re attending The Gathering 2010, do not miss them! We will also, luck favouring us, be presenting a demo-version of our game Evil Junior at the TG Game Development Competition / NGA Hype Awards.

News from the lab

In the weeks to come, we intend to start publishing snippets from our story and character descriptions, so that you can get a feel for the game. The idea is that the demo will not be able to convey the depth of our characters, and it’s a good thing to be somewhat aquainted with them before playing the game demo.

We will start by a character we select ourselves, and in that post we’ll also name-drop a few alternatives for which characters to tell you more about the following week. The post-comments will be used to determine who we will feature next. Nifty, eh? :)

Good morning henchmen!

At the evil overlord labs of Illuminatics, we’re hard at work with Evil Junior, our entry for the 2009 Norwegian Game Awards. After winning the 2008 Norwegian Game Awards, we thought we’d give it a shot again - this time with an adventure game with modern twists. We’ll start to add blog updates and post screenshots and work-in-progress stuff as soon as we feel comfortable with what we’ve got.

A few details about Evil Junior:

  • At the moment, we are focusing on finishing our game demo for NGA 2009. The full game will follow.
  • We are using Frontend as our main development platform, a solution we have developed ourselves.
  • Because of this, we’ll be able to support Windows, Mac and Linux in one big swoop
  • We believe that playability and humor is very important in gaming, especially in adventure games
  • Good art makes gaming more enjoyable
  • Being able to die in an adventure game is stupid, and we won’t have it

All in all, we hope that you will enjoy Evil Junior when it’s done. We hope to be able to release the game demo meant for NGA 2009 to the general public at some point, and we’d love to get your feedback on the game then, in order to make the full game even better than it is in our heads right now (which is admittedly hard to top, but still :)
